It’s a familiar tale in horror circles: a group of sexy co-eds get lost in an unfamiliar setting and terrible things start happening. One new project, however, hopes to set itself apart by also adding in a touch of supernatural elements…and the son of “Miami Vice” star Don Johnson.

“Prey,” currently filming in Australia, counts among its leads 24-year-old Jesse Johnson, as well as Rogue Traders frontwoman Natalie Bassingthwaighte. George T. Miller (”The Neverending Story II,” “The Man from Snowy River”) helms the flick.

“It’s about some kids that go out to the beach to get some surfing done,” Johnson told us of the plot. “Turns out they take a right turn to go off and do some stuff, and some weird, silly things start happening to them and it gets pretty scary. It’s a really good script. I’m really excited to do it.”

Those “weird, silly things” will take the project in a slightly different direction than the current batch of other likeminded horror films, according to the actor. “There are a couple zombie moments,” Johnson revealed, “but mostly what you don’t see is what’s really scary about it.”

While much of the movie’s story is being kept under wraps, there’s one thing audiences can be sure of…the intention is to get pulses racing. “It’s definitely intended to be scary. Definitely an R-rating. It’s going to be a pretty fun time.”

“Prey” is shooting for an early-2008 release.
