Charities
It's not uncommon for celebrities to adopt charities as they rise to fame, using their new found publicity to garner interest for particular causes and trusts, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte is no different.
Having been in the public eye for some time Natalie has been involved with several charities which she has helped raise awareness for (such donating prize money from celebrity television shows or donating proceeds from celebrity auctions).
For the moment the main charity Natalie Bassingthwaighte supports is the global children’s charity the
Variety Club. The charity spends time helping underprivileged and disabled children in various countries. Natalie's involvement has been with the Australian branch of the charity and has seen her appear at various fundraising functions (as a guest and as a singer) and also take on the role as an ambassador for the charity.
Natalie has also been involved in
RADD (Recording artists, actors and athletes against drink driving), an organisation which sees celebrities and sport stars help enforce the message against driving after drinking. She provided a short soundbite in which she encourages people to refrain from getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
2006 saw Natalie supporting the Australian charity
Beyond Blue as she and Shannon Noll sang the duet 'Don't Tell Me' which was added to the charity album 'Songs Of Hope'. Beyond Blue helps people suffering from various depression related illnesses such as post natal depression and Bipolar Disorder. Natalie's connection with the charities cause was highlighted with comments that she had suffered a from depression at the age of 24.
