Shock news: Natalie is leaving
Neighbours. And in only eight weeks time! The big question is, will she be packing a Gold Logie in her luggage? "I'm really happy that this is the year that I'm leaving and this nomination has happened," she says. "I'm totally overwhelmed!" Natalie's come a long way since she first set foot in Ramsay Street - and despite a rocky start, the nation has embraced her and her character! "For the first couple of years it was all about Izzy and no one really liked me," she says modestly. "I think because I was playing a 'bad' character. But then I started doing other things and people got to see me being me." So why has she decided to walk? "I was really tired. I hadn't had a day off in nine weeks," she explains. "And I really wanted to explore other things." Her work as lead singer of the enormously popular Rogue Traders is also taking up lots of her time - they're off to the UK and Europe soon to promote their album. "It hasn't been released there yet, so it will be interesting to see what happens," Natalie says. With only a few weeks left before she heads overseas, Natalie's on the casmpaign trail. Or at least, her dad is! "Dad said that he might get the whole of Wollongong in on it," she laughs. "I was like, 'I'm not telling you to do anything... but go on!' I don't know whether he was serious but, knowing my dad, he probably will."
Natalie's tip for gold: Ever modest, Natalie's not backing herself. "I feel a bit, well, embarrassed isn't the right word, but I feel like I can't believe I am in a category with Bert and Rove for one," she says. "It's so good but it's not right."
It took a while for Natalie Bassingthwaighte to come to terms with the excitement of our Logies nominations breakfast - she had just flown in from the hippy town of Byron Bay. "I had a weekend in Byron with my boyfriend, so I'm all rested and fresh. It was my first weekend off in about nine weeks," she told us. Nat, whose profile has skyrocketed since becoming lead singer for Rogue Traders, says, she appreciated having some down time in the low-key beach town. "Byron was great, because no one really cares who I am," she said.
